Thundering smoke

Our day starts very early because the cold in the camp in Chumbwe makes us dream of hot coffee and other things. So we still witness the unique atmosphere of the morning sky with a crescent Moon beneath a bright Venus. It is obvious that the eclipse is near, the countdown has started. Observation report in German: click here. .

A cool morning in Chumbwe, Zambia

We move our camp to a place near the Zambesi where we have showers. Then we make a trip to the Victoria Falls, one of the most famous wonders of nature.

The Victoria Falls at the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe

Roaring and raging the waters fall down and creates high clouds of spray.
We put on rainclothes and still get soaking wet!

The evening programme provides the "social highlight" of the tour, the Sunset Cruise on the Zambesi River (of course above the falls). Also an unforgettable evening, especially after sunset, when Mars and the Southern Corss appear in the sky and the river is suddenly full of boats.

Good mood on the Zambesi-steamboat. It creates a good feeling so shortly before the eclipse and
after almost two weeks of strenuous camp tour through Africa.

A sight of breathtaking beauty: sunset at the Zambesi

The party continues long into the night. Hardly anyone thinks about observing tonight, although the sky is perfectly clear again. Tonight we want to party. And soon our thoughs are with the next WAA journey. More and more whiskeys help us to digest, and so our talks become more and more profound.
