Along the Okawango

After our adventures on the day before and the rather long observation night, we had a good night's sleep and no early wake-up call. Today will be a shorter trip, that's what they say. The cars must be filled up, food must be stored. All that takes almost all morning and gives us time for long walks through the woods along the river. It is almost like walking along the Danube back home in Austria but the vegetation and even tracks of a hippopotamus tell us, we are inAfrica.

Africa's best side! Along the banks of river Kavango. Take note of the moon's position!

In the late morning we start and cross the border into Botswana. The surprisingly good road gives me the chance to type this report.

It can't be all that easy. Today's trip is almost 100 miles longer than we thought. A short involuntary stop (Filling up the canisters in the dark! Absolutely nor smoking!) makes a glance at the Large Magellanic Cloud and the zodiacal light possible. (Observation report in German). Once again we arrive in Camp Audi long after sunset and put up our tents in the dark. It is cold here in Maun, in Botswana, south of the Okawango Delta. We are in a bad mood, hungry and tired. The place is not ideal for observing the sky. But we have already had several good observation nights and we will have more ahead of us. So we just stargaze with the unaided eye - not bad either! More about it here in German.

Tomorrow the big adventure is waiting for us ...
